Workshop Gene Doping 17 April 2004 Utrecht, the Netherlands

    Dear Sir/Madam,

    During the 38th annual scientific meeting of the European Society for Clinical Investigation (ESCI) from 14-17 April 2004 in Utrecht the Netherlands, the Netherlands Centre for Doping affairs (NeCeDo) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) will organize a workshop on Gene Doping on Saturday April 17.

    The workshop will focus on:
    - the current applicability of gene doping
    - the health consequences of gene doping
    - possibilities for preventive measures
    - research on gene and cellular technologies applied to doping
    - detection of gene doping
    - the athlete perspective.

    With contributions from
    - prof. Theodore Friedmann, Department of Pediatrics, UCSD School of Medicine Program in Human Gene Therapy and Department of Pediatrics, La Jolla California.
    - Prof. Dr. Hidde Haisma, professor in gene modulation at the Groningen centre for Pharmacy and president of the Dutch society for Gene Therapy (NVGT)
    - Carl Verheijen, international elite speed skater vice European Champion all-round and former world champion 10.000 meters.
